From real estate agent, home inspection, lawyer and accountant, to landscaper, insurance agent, stair manufacturer, carpet installer, electrician and general contractor, I have come in contact with a TON of business owners and service providers.    It is unfortunate to say that I have had my share of negative experiences, whether it be a service provider not following through on what he or she promised, to a business owner providing lousy customer service and not setting proper expectations with me.   I feel like in the last 3 or 4 years, through all of this, I have learned a lot about life and a lot about the do&#39;s and don&#39;ts of running a service-based business.   In comes Boyd Automotive. Stu, the owner of Boyd Automotive, recently joined our BNI Chapter, and so when I started hearing weird sounds coming from my brakes, I turned to Stu and his gang.               I want to share my story, because so many people are quick to complain when something goes wrong, but very few are quick to praise when something goes right.    From the get-go, I knew that Boyd Automotive was NOT just your ordinary auto-mechanic shop.      When I first called to set up an appointment, I was greeted with a very friendly gentleman, Ryan, on the other end of the phone.     Ryan was pleasant, energetic and happy to speak with me. He explained, in full, the processes at Boyd Automotive, and then collected all of my information. I have dealt with other auto-mechanic shops in the past, and often times I feel as if I am interrupting the person on the other end of the phone. I sometimes felt rushed and not appreciated. I never once felt like I was &#34;interrupting&#34; Ryan&#39;s day and he was more than happy to answer all of my questions. Ryan was a great first contact with Boyd Automotive. Immediately after scheduling my appointment to bring my car in, I received a confirmation e-mail and the day before my appointment, I received an e-mail reminder. Being a tech-savvy guy myself, I really appreciated that Boyd Automotive used such a slick and high-tech system to set up appointments and confirm times. That&#39;s a plus in my books!    When I arrived at Boyd Automotive, I was, again, greeted by the friendly front-desk staff, Ryan and Julie, and was offered coffee, some up-to-date magazines, and a comfortable chair. Ryan, again, explained the process, took my keys from me, and asked if I would need a ride home. Although I had previously arranged to be picked up, but I appreciated the gesture.       Within 2 hours, I received a phone call from Ryan, detailing what they had found, and explaining the different options in fixing the problem. I appreciated that he didn&#39;t push me to any one option, and he was honest with his assessment. I gave him the go-ahead with what we had discussed, and went on with my day.     Then, within an hour (must be record-time for fixing a car), I received a phone call, again, from Ryan, letting me know that my car was all ready to go. When I arrived back at Boyd Automotive, Ryan went over, in detail (withdiagrams) exactly what they had done. He reviewed my upcoming maintenance schedule, and answered any and all questions that I had.    This isn&#39;t the end of the story. I had a great experience at the shop, and I was extremely pleased with the customer service. That&#39;s great. For me, this is almost expected out of a business - quality service, quality product - because that is exactly what I give to my clients.   Where the story gets even better is the next 24 hours. I had a problem, again, with my car, that was related to the work that they had done on it. I ended up having to have CAA tow my car to the shop, because it broke down on the side of the road. I touched base with Ryan and let him know, and he said he would get it in the shop right away to look at it. It turns out that the mechanic who worked on my car had accidentally forgotten to tighten a bolt or something, and that is what caused the recurring problem.People make mistakes, and I totally understand. We&#39;re all human. Here, though, is where Boyd Automotive is different than almost every other business I have dealt with.     When they made the mistake, they first apologized, next, they rushed the job for me, gave me a complementary oil change, and finally, they surprised me first thing the next morning by having the owner drive my car back to me.    I would have been happy here. They apologized for their mistake and they made it up to me, but when I got back in to my car later that afternoon, I found three Tim Horton&#39;s Gift Cards waiting for me, with a hand-written note saying &#34;Sorry for the inconvenience&#34; on it.     Wow - this was just the icing on the cake! They had gone above-and-beyond to gain my trust, show their dedication to customer service, and to make up for their mistake.   If this story isn&#39;t enough to make you want to switch auto mechanics to Boyd Automotive, then I don&#39;t know what else is!
