The city of Thorold, Ontario, is located just south of St. Catharines and west of Niagara Falls, serving as the seat of Canada’s Regional Municipality of Niagara. Thorold covers a land area of 83 square kilometers, home to a population of some 19,000 people.
The site of the Battle of Beaver Dams in the War of 1812, Thorold grew through the 19th century, incorporated as a village in 1850 and as a town in 1870. It became incorporated as a city more than 100 years later, in 1975. The Welland Canal passes through Thorold, where the Twin Flight Locks are a regular tourist attraction. Thorold hosts several annual events, including the Mountain Top Ceremony, Thorold Antique Car Show and The Canal Bank Shuffle.
