Rotating your tires is an easy and inexpensive way to minimize wear and extend tire life. This process of moving your tires from one side of the vehicle to the other, from front to rear, or a combination of both, will minimize wear that is ‘position specific.’
We recommend a tire rotation every 3,000 to 6,000 Km as a function of basic maintenance. Be sure to contact your service advisor for more information. Tire wear can be uneven for any number of reasons. You may be risking excess or premature wear, as well as a reduction in overall fuel economy, by not rotating your tires regularly. Even wear is essential for consistent performance and to extend the lifespan of a set of tires.
From a safety standpoint, uneven tire wear can reduce the “contact patch,” the tire’s actual footprint on the road. This can contribute to vibration, shimmy or pulling, which can distract the driver and lead to an accident. From an environmental point of view, uneven tire wear will cause tires to fail and send them to a landfill prematurely.
